In response to the Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee’s report on research and innovation in Wales, Amanda Wilkinson, Universities Wales Director, said;
“We are delighted to see the Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee recognise the world-leading quality of research in Wales and welcome their recommendation that the Reid recommendations be implemented in full. Professor Graeme Reid’s review explored how we can maximise the amount of UK-wide research funding that is brought into Wales and received near unanimous support.”
“Research and innovation are key drivers of growth and productivity, the benefits of which are felt by people across Wales and we commend the Welsh Government for having commissioned this work. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework exercise, Wales had the highest proportion of world-leading research in terms of its impact in the UK.
“At this time of unprecedented change research and innovation will play a pivotal role in the future prosperity of the people and places of Wales.”
