Following the announcement by Kirsty Williams MS, Minister for Education, that she will not be standing in next year’s Senedd elections, Amanda Wilkinson, Director of Universities Wales said:
“Kirsty Williams has been an excellent Minister to work with, rightly challenging but with the ability to work constructively to take people with her.
“Her focus on the role universities must play in driving benefits to their communities and to Wales, will be an important legacy.
“She has put universities on track to a more sustainable future by setting in train the implementation of the Diamond Review of Higher Education, which provided Welsh students with the most effective maintenance support in the UK. She has also ensured that Welsh universities are living wage employers.
“These are tangible changes with a real impact on people’s lives”.
