Universities Wales response to post-legislative scrutiny of the Higher Education (Wales) 2015 Act

In response to the publication of the Children, Young People and Education Committee’s post-legislative scrutiny of the Higher Education (Wales) Act 2015, Amanda Wilkinson, Director of Universities Wales, said:

“We welcome the detailed and thorough approach that the Children, Young People and Education Committee has taken in their post-legislative scrutiny of the Higher Education (Wales) Act 2015.

“As we said in our evidence to the committee, the 2015 Act has, for the most part, maintained a robust regulatory system for higher education. However, we are pleased to see the committee recognise areas of the 2015 Act that could be improved.

“We welcome the committee’s recognition of the importance of student voice and the student interest, and the recommendation that the next Act be focused on learners.

“As we approach the publication of the Tertiary Education Bill, continued Welsh Government engagement with stakeholders across the tertiary education sector will be important. This engagement will ensure that the tertiary education system evolves alongside proposed legislative change and is able to respond flexibly and quickly to the challenges Wales may face in the future.”
