The Economic Impact of Higher Education in Wales Report
Universities Wales will be launching a report into the economic impact that our universities have on the economy of Wales on Tuesday. Follow us on twitter @Unis_Wales for all the information and links to the report.
Study in Wales presence in California and Brazil
Next week will see Study in Wales represented for the first time at four California Out-of-State College Fairs, thanks to Global Wales’ successful bid to the GREAT UK Challenge Fund. The fairs are aimed at prospective students from California who have decided to study outside of their state, either in another part of the US or internationally. Study in Wales will also hold an informal information and networking session with Guidance Counsellors on Wednesday afternoon in Claremont, CA.
We were delighted to hear that colleagues from Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, Swansea and South Wales delivered Study in Wales seminars at three British Council fairs in Brazil (Sao Paolo, Belo Horizonte and Rio). Please do continue to let us know of any similar planned activities or other ways that you have been using the brand.
Update on the criteria and guidance for UK Degree Awarding Powers and University Title
The UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) are making changes to the process for degree awarding powers (DAPs) and university title (UT) in England. These changes have resulted in a move away from joint England and Wales criteria and guidance, and BIS published England-only criteria and guidance for DAPs and UT applications on 15 September.
In order to ensure that any prospective applicants in Wales can access the correct criteria and guidance for DAPs and UT applications, the QAA website (and Welsh Government website in the case of FDAPs), contains a caveat against the previous joint criteria and guidance. This indicates that the criteria and guidance now applies in relation to Wales only.
In the meantime the documents are in the process of undergoing minor amendments and updated versions will be issued in due course. This exercise is focused on ensuring that the documentation is correct and there is no intention to amend any of the existing criteria, processes or procedures at present.
