In response to the publication of the post-18 review of funding in England, a Universities Wales spokesperson said:
“In Wales, we recently underwent an independent review of student support and higher education funding arrangements. As a result of that review, Wales now offers the most progressive, generous student support package in the UK and one which is seeing large increases in the number of students choosing to study part-time and postgraduate courses.
“We welcome the review’s consideration of policies already in place in Wales including a system that has a balance of funding across modes and levels and the provision of maintenance grants for students. Wales has a world-leading higher education sector, one that has the UK’s highest student satisfaction rate and the highest proportion of world-leading research in terms of impact in the UK.
“Any response by the UK Government to the review panel’s recommendations must take into account the impact any reforms would have on Wales. It is essential that any cut in fees is made up by increased funding and that Wales receives full Barnett consequentials for that funding. We expect full dialogue with the devolved administrations to take place before any government response is issued.”
