Delegation forges links between Wales and Brazil

On September 22-23, Universities Wales and British Council Wales welcomed a delegation of Brazilian Pro-Vice Chancellors International to Wales. The delegation were all members of FAUBAI, the Brazilian Association of International Education. Wales was the first stop in a four-part tour of the UK, with the delegation visiting Northern Ireland, England and Scotland during the course of this week.

Universities Wales invited every Welsh universities to take part in an information session on the sector. As well as a general introduction to Welsh HE and a series of presentations on the Brazilian institutions, the session saw a roundtable discussion on opportunities for partnerships between Brazilian and Welsh institutions, chaired by Prof. John Grattan, Pro Vice Chancellor International, Aberystwyth University. The delegation was keen to capitalise and build on the extensive links made via the Science Without Borders Programme to promote further partnerships, particularly in research and outward mobility between the UK and Brazil.

FAUBAI also took part in campus visits to Cardiff and Swansea universities, where they mingled with Brazilian students currently studying in Wales.

The Brazilian delegation were keen to build on the momentum of the visit and invited Welsh colleagues to attend the FAUBAI annual conference in Mato Grosso in April 2015.
