A new BEIS-funded programme is making grants of up to £150,000 are available for institutions to deliver a dynamic programme of research fellowships for early career researchers (ECRs) from their strategic partner institutions.

UUKi has announced its involvement in the newly established Rutherford Fund, a government fund to attract highly skilled researchers to the UK that was announced by Jo Johnson in July.

UUKi has been working with BEIS to develop a new programme under this new scheme. This programme will help strengthen strategic partnerships between UK institutions and their overseas partners by funding Early Career Researcher (ECR) visiting fellowships.

The Rutherford Fund Strategic Partner Grants programme is not restricted to particular geographical regions, however priority countries have been identified for the scheme, and therefore applications to work with partners within these countries are particularly encouraged. Grants of up to £150,000 are available for institutions to deliver a dynamic programme of research fellowships for ECRs from their strategic partner institutions.

Anticipated outcomes of the scheme are as follows:

  • Enhanced links between UK institutions and key strategic partners in priority countries
  • Increased rates of co-publication between UK and partner institution research teams
  • Future research leaders develop new links and networks with the UK research community
  • New opportunities for collaboration with future research leaders
  • Enhanced reputation of the UK and UK institutions in a broad range of countries

The call for applications has just been launched today and will close on Wednesday 10January 2018, for the fellowships to begin by 31 March 2018. We recognise that this is a very tight deadline, but hope that you will be able to draw on your existing partnerships to take advantage of this opportunity. Applications are limited to one per institution.

For further details of this opportunity including how to apply please visit the following page:

Your cooperation in disseminating information about this new opportunity within your institution would be much appreciated.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the UUKi partnerships team as per the contact details here.
