Universities Wales Weekly Wrap Up – 30 September 2016

Diamond Review

Universities Wales welcomed this week’s publication of the Diamond Review of higher education funding and student finance arrangements for Wales, and its commitment to finding a sustainable solution for both students and universities.  Our full statement is here.  We would like to thank Sir Ian and the panel members for their commitment and diligence over the last two years in producing this report.

Plans for the TEF2

The UK Government has published details this week of how universities will be rated under the second year of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

The UK government’s response to the Teaching Excellence Framework consultation demonstrates that it has consulted and listened to the university sector and the revised timetable is helpful.  The challenge now will be to develop a single framework that can respond effectively to the tremendous diversity within our higher education system, throughout the UK.

SPA’s unconscious bias staff development events

The SPA’s are running their first unconscious bias staff development event in Manchester on 20 October.  The second event will take place in London on 2 November. Featuring expert contributions from SPA, ECU, and HELOA, these interactive events will explore how HE providers can manage the risk of unconscious bias in student recruitment and admissions.
