Statement on Higher Education (Wales) Bill

Commenting on the completion of Stage 3 of the Higher Education (Wales) Bill a Universities Wales spokesperson said:

“Universities Wales welcomes the amendments agreed today by the National Assembly for Wales.  We have been clear from the beginning of this process that Welsh universities thrive on the principles of autonomy which are widely considered to have enabled them to become world class.

“As a result of the amendments, we are hopeful that the Bill will no longer pose a threat to the operation of universities under charitable law, or to their ONS classification, which support universities to succeed in their missions and to deliver economic and social prosperity to Wales.”
