UCAS Figures – January 2011 Release

Topic: 2010/11 Entry Figures
Release Date: 31/01/2011

A spokesperson for HEW said:

“The 5% increase in applications from Welsh students to universities in Wales shows that demand for higher education is increasing. A university education is clearly recognised for the tangible benefits it provides to people. Undoubtedly, gaining specialist higher-level skills gives graduates an edge in what is a challenging jobs market. It’s encouraging to see an 18% increase in science subjects across the UK, and a large rise in applications to the creative arts. These subjects and others will be important for the future growth of the economy. As ever, competition for places is likely to be vigorous. It’s important that applicants receive high-quality, targeted information, advice and guidance following the outcome of their applications and should also be sure to apply early to Student Finance Wales for student support.”
