Universities Wales statement on return to in person teaching

Welsh universities have taken the decision to continue to deliver the majority of their teaching online until Easter.

This decision has been taken at this time to provide students with certainty for the coming weeks. The collaborative approach that has been adopted between government, universities, students and staff has helped us manage these very difficult circumstances to the best of our ability. Universities will continue to follow Welsh Government guidance.

It is important to note students on a range of courses have already returned to in person teaching, including many courses with practical or placement requirements. We anticipate a small number of additional students will be returning to campuses before Easter where this is required for completion or to meet learning outcomes, including through access to facilities and resources.

Students who will be making use of on-campus learning facilities or resources in the coming weeks can be confident that our campuses remain covid-secure, socially distanced environments with rigorous cleaning protocols.

Universities will shortly communicate any revised plans to students and staff.

We recognise that this is a difficult time for everyone. Student and staff wellbeing remains a key priority for universities in Wales and we would encourage any student experiencing difficulties or hardship to talk to their institution.
